TIA for any value or date info on this recently purchased 6" S&W Model 686-5.SN is CCY3xxx and features non-MIM parts and non adjustable trigger stop, cylinder and barrel flats are polished, rest is matt finish. I was told by the dealer that this was a S&W employee purchase.

Not saying this is it but sure sounds a lot like it.

Set up for revolver competition like the 627. The 686-5 was a frame design change to eliminate the cylinder stop stud and serrated tangs. Also changed to MIM hammer and trigger.
Blue Book doesn't show a 686-5 but does show a 686 Plus. Sounds a lot like yours.

Thanks Ben,
Except for the moon clip recess, which mine doesn't have, sounds like the same one. I'm not sure about the barrel description though. The barrel is not really tapered, except for the lug, the rest is milled flat & straight. I supose that anything is possible if it was an employye purchase.

Thanks for the info on the frame change. It can be very confusing to account for all of the variations between "dashes". I am waiting for the new SCSW to help me understand the variations.
