I receintly looked at a win 52 I would like to purchase. The problem is the bolt won't come out. A friend said it just needs a good cleaning, that they all do that. could someone shed some light on this?

Can anyone give me a ballpark idea of the value of a Winchester model 52 Bull barrel with a serial number of 10xxx? It has Vavier sights and about 80% blue. It has the speedlock trigger also.

A friend is thinking about buying a model 52 sn.226xx as a shooter: it has 3 extra holes drilled in it , the stock has been altered and has a 69 marked mag...it still has peep sight mounted and has a lyman 438 field scope....the blue is 75% or so....about what is this gun worth as is? Will any 52[A B ect] stock fit and what does a decent one usualy sell for?........thanks

I've seen people refer to thier model 52's as B or C or D
My rifle is only marked model 52. How do you determine the letter model?

Well, it definitely is no longer a true "collectable" Winchester, but it is still likely to be a damn fine shooter. As such, and with the scope, $325 would be a realistic price. I have no idea on the stock fit or how much one will cost, but will add that it most likely would not be cost effective to replace it.

52's had a variety of stocks....earlier models and Speedlocks had the safety on the left side, B-C-D &-E's had safety on the right. Winchester also offered different barrel diameters (Sporter-target-heavy-bull). Earlier stocks includeing B's & C's had magazine release buttons on the right side....D & E models did not, they were single shots. Finding the correct stock for yours may take a little research and patience. Aftermarket stocks are another option.

Values on the 52's can range from $300-to-$5K (and more)....depends on condition and model. Hardest to find are the "C" Sporters and Internationals.

Any 52 under $500 probably has some condition problems or is missing parts. The 52's reputation as a shooter is legend....check out Herbert House's book "Winchester Model 52, Perfection in design". Good Luck.

If he wants one strictly as a shooter, why not try the Browning copy of the Winchester 52? Probably no collector value as of now, they're not too hard to find and look very nice. I know it's not a "real" 52 but the ones I've seen shoot very well.
