Burris, Leupold or T/C variable - from 2 to 7 or 2 to 8 - would work fine. Compared to the rifle calibers in the Contender & Encore, the 44 Mag is not much of a recoiler so any of the above should work well.

Probably either a Leupold or Burris fixed 2x scope would be a good choice, but I like the Bushnell Elite 2-6x32mm handgun scope better than either of these fixed 2x scopes. I have one of the Elite 3200 2-6x scopes on my Dan Wesson 744VH. It has longer eye relief than any of the fixed 2x scopes. I would highly recommend checking one of those out before you buy anything else.

I have a Leupold 2x scope on my S&W 500, but I was thinking about replacing it with an Aimpoint dot type scope.

Burris makes an awesome scope with lifetime warranty. I have a 2x-7x on my 629 Classic that is set up with a ballistic plex cross hair specific for .44 mag. I have taken several Florida hogs with it from 60 to 125 yards and never missed my mark. Also I shoot steel from as far as 200 yards, one-handed, and always hear that "ting". As well, Burris has a special order department which allows you to specify cross-hair types which may afford you a better sight picture than normal offerings. One other thing... Burris is made in the U.S.A. !!!
    Good Luck.

i have a 2x6x32 bushnell on my 45-70 BFR and it's held up to over 1000 rds so far... i mainly shoot handloads from it as well, a bit warmer than most factory loads. no problems so far....

You might also consider a Swift. They not only have a life time warranty, it is a dealer swap warranty. If your Swift ever fails simply take it back to the dealer and he will hand you a new one[:D]
