I have a win mod 70 in 250-3000 sav manufactured in 1946. S/N 51XXX. It was purchased new in 1946 by a fellow officers grandfather. It is standard grade and 100% original from day 1. It was purchased with a Lyman Alaskan 95-2 1/2X scope and mounts. The front scope mount is mounted in the rear sight dovetail. It was hunted with from 1947-1965 and has had approx 120 rnds fired thru it. (He saved his brass) I have taken it to several gun stores and they have told me that only a collecter should put a value on it. (I was offered $2500.00 by one) It is in 80% condition according to 2 gun stores. I want to sell to a collector only. I live in southern PA. and work in MD. Does anyone know a collector in the area who may be interested? Any idea how many 250-3000 were made in 1946?

It is one of the rarer calibers. Don't let anyone tell you the mounted scope lowers the value. It sounds like it is in a Stith mount which does not alter the rifle in any meaningful way.

$2500 is right on the bottom end of what it is worth. If you can find an interested (motivated) collector, or get a couple of them in a bidding war, it could easily top $3500. I would suggest listing it in an online (internet) auction such as can be found here at Gunbroker.com. There are LOTS of Winchester collectors that frequent the auction side of this site.

Wrong serial number range for me, but Bert is right on the money. All my 1952 issue Model 70's sport original period glass. And that is the only way I want em. Cabella's lists them every once in a while and usually start at $3500 and up. Just love the history that those old 70's could give ifin they could only speak..Yes does sound like a Stith mount, no problem with that.

The Stith mount itself without scope is worth in the neighborhood of $150.
