Can someone explain the difference or advantage of purchasing one of these in a "carbine" , On the remington website the call the 18" barrel a carbine. Does the longer barrel get more accurate? I have owned a 742 in the past and it got stolen . Im intersted in the 30/06 or .270 winchester for hunging Deer in Michigan

    Difference?, simply a shorter barrel.

Advantage?, easier to manuver in wooded/brushy enviroment.

More accurate with longer barrel?, possibly, but the average hunter couldn't tell.

You will lose a little velocity with the carbine lenght barrel compared to full length, but again, for white tails you won't know the difference.

Get whichever length you feel will suit you best. I shoot a full length rifle and my buddy shoots a carbine 742, we both drop deer every year.[:)]
