I've searched on the site but cannot find the value of this rifle. It is a REM 260 Model 700 with a Weaver scope and has been shot once. Thanks.

On the model 700 remington 30-06, when did remington start marking them 30-06? I am thinking about buying one off of a friend, he says it is marked 30 caliber instead of 30-06. Is this a remington model 700? Thanks for your help. Sgt

    Could be a model 30 in .30 Remington. I believe the 700's were marked 30-06 instead of .30 or .30 Gov't. Possibly a rebarreled 700?
Can you provide any photos of the action?

They didn't start making the model 700 until about 1962 and by then all guns would be marked 30.06 unless it's been rebarreled.
    Are you sure it's a model 700 ?
Any other markings on it ??

Thank you for your replys. I really haven't had to opportunity to look over the gun very well. I will try to get a picture of it, or get some other information about it. I was kind of thinking it may not be a 700 at all, but he says it is. I will get more information and submit when available. Thanks again for the input. frank

Could be a Rem 30 or a 721 Remington. Given a choice between the 721 & a 700 I'll take the 721. Not much real difference, just a little more wood & blued steel on the older 721.
