I picked up a M52B at a yard sale. Bore is pretty good but it looks like it sat in a damp cellar too long. No real pitting but pretty well freckled. Any idea of a ballpark value? I couldn't leave it there for the $30 price tag.

Can anyone tell me the details on what makes a Model 70 a "Westerner"? What years were M70 Westerners made? How rare are they?

I couldn't leave it for that price either. My suggestion is to get some Kroil and then take the barreled action out of the stock keep all the metal parts wet includeing the bore with kroil for 48 hours and then use brass wool or the edge of a penny to wipe the freckles off . You could part the gun out for much more . If the stock has not been altered it is worth $100.00 as many of these rifles have been modified for target shooters .

The damn magazine alone is worth the $30! NICE buy![^]

I agree with Perry shooter... liberal soak in Kroil. I prefer to use 0000 steel wool soaked in Kroil to remove the rust... just don't get wild with the elbow grease[;)]
