870 feeding problems

I have a Remington 870 Marine and that flat metal guide on the right side that contacts the magazine follower keeps popping out and blocks the path feeding into the magazine and prevents loading a round into the magazine. I can pop it back with a wooden dowel but it gives me real doubts about reliability. I thought the 870 was as reliable as a pump can get. Its only a year old, is this just another example of gun makers just making a cheaper product to increase their pofit margin???

First I have heard of an 870 Marine and first I have heard of feeding problems with any 870! Im sure everyone else will attest to to countless shells that have passed through ours. You sure it aint a Mossberg then I could understand but an 870 say it aint so!

    vtgun,
If I understand your post, the "flat metal guide" you speak of is what Remington calls a shell stop. It is, or should be, staked into a recess in the receiver. Sometimes these 'stakes' come loose or are poorly done in the first place, and the shell stop can come loose or fall out. Yours probably just needs re-staked. A special staking tool is required to do the job properly, but any gunsmith who works on Remingtons should have one as this is not an uncommon problem.

Call Remington, I am sure that they will fix it at no cost.

    Good luck

I had the same problem in a 3inch 12 gauge a few years back (happened after goose hunting w/ #2 loads). I sent the receiver to the Customer Service dept at Remington & they fixed it - no questions asked & my gun was much older than yours.

By the way, I sent you an e-mail regarding a post you made last year for the SS TC Hawkens.

if its just your shell stop, please dont send your gun back to remington. any gunsmith can fix it in two minutes and will probably wont charge you while remington will stick it to you! had a buddy of mine that had a 11-87 that the mag tube came out of its place and they charged him $175.00 for what was a obvious manufacturing defect.
