Hello, are there different sears for the Winchester 1897 shotgun? The one that came with the gun was cracked and un serviceable. I have purchased two NOS sears from separate businesses and neither match the original sear. Do i need a different hammer, or look for a sear that matches up?? All the part lists I have been able to locate only list one sear and or hammer for either 12 or 16ga? Thanks for any help.

Just a though but could the sear that came with the gun be Cracked but also the incorrect type for the rest of the internals for your gun [?] and the replacements the correct one. also it may be easier to find a new style part the sear interacts with and change out both. Either way I think you need to find a gunsmith that has Knowledge and skill of a model 97 that is most likely beyond the skills of gunsmiths trained in the last 30 years.

Well, it is a D gun 282406 sn, I will try to get pics up soon, the sear that was in the gun holds the hammer back farther , the replacements do not appear to hold the hammer back far enough when in cocked position.
