Hi everyone,

Regarding comparison and contrastation to the Beretta 92 and Ruger P series 9mm. Which gun is better for all-purpose usage and ammo? Do both guns have 33 round extended magazines?

I caannot speak personally, as I have not owned a Beretta 92. But I will say how happy I have been with my Rugers.
I think many will attest to to the fact that Rugers are very durable and very cost effective. Whether an older model P85, P89 or a new/er P95, all are well made and are quite dependable. Thy may not be the most comfortable, or may appear bulky, but I have been satisfied.

If being used for target or just range (fun) shooting, I think you will be happy with a Ruger. If your life depends on it (i.e. a carry gun) it's possible you may want to go another route. It's all opinion at that point.

Regarding magazine size, Rugers have 15 round magazines. I do not think either (Ruger or Beretta) offer 33 round magazines.

Hands down, Beretta. I have owned both the Beretta 92 and the P Series and quickly shed the Ruger. It wasn't a terrible gun, but not even close to the Beretta. I still own that 92FS.

The Ruger is a fine pistol that is very well built as well as being accurate. The Beretta is a much better pistol in every facet that pistols can be judged.

Having both they are excellent guns in thier own price range. The Beretta having a slightly longer sight plane offers better accuracy. The $200 price differential is the break point if your on a budget.

Both are highly reliable. Years of never jam. Simple to break down and clean and put back together. Both made in US.

The Rugers are OK, but feel like a brick in my hands. I have a Beretta 92 and Vertec and shoot both.
    Go with a Beretta [;)]

    hxm,

Both are fine for "all-purpose usage and ammo".

Magazines: Wouldn't know about ultra-extended mags... more than likely an after-market affair and myself would have to see, in action, before would consider any brand. Un-wieldy they are for most purpose, but can be a kick for kerplunkin' tincans.

A personal opinion, I do not like the Ruger P trigger. A basic fact-- look at the feed ramp comparision. The Beretta 92 is darn near an in-line incline, with very little jump from magazine to chamber, which amounts to highly reliable with many types of ammo configuations. Had an early Taurus 99 copy of the Berreta 92 and never once experienced any type of jamb-- reloads, hollow points, you name it.

My nod goes to the 92, hands down, if the check-book didn't care.

I own 4 beretta 92 three full size and 1 compact. I also have the ruger. The beretta feels better and the trigger in single action is a great trigger.
The ruger shoots great but feels thick and a little clumsier. The trigger on the ruger is heavier. Try both of them, I enjoy shooting either one but my preference is the Beretta.

Yep, and that's why I feel that the 96 will swallow virtually any ammo I put in it. With some 40's, bullet profile seems to be important. But, not with the 96. If the 96 will swallow anything, try to imagine how well the 92 will do. But, of course, I'm sure folks have enjoyed some FTF's and FTE's, from time to time, with the 92. But, relatively speaking, I'm sure it's one of the most reliable pistols, period. The Beretta 92FS, IMO, is an outstanding pistol. It's hard to argue with Beretta's falling block system. Well, I like it. [:p] I'm guessing that they copied it from Walther?

As far as the Ruger, it's a "good" pistol. But, for me, it's not a fine pistol. It's hard to explain but, they feel sloppy, in comparison to a 92FS. But, they've been proven, IIRC, to be extremely durable, for something not all too expensive. You can pick one up, fairly cheap, so that's a plus. But, with regards to the slide and the frame, they just feel like castings... from company that's not all about excellence.

As far as accuracy (Ruger), it's fine, for a combat pistol. But, if you want something that has incredible accuracy, OTB, and with unreal fit, slide to frame & barrel to slide, look at Sig Sauer, P226. Or any Sig, for that matter.

If you have little money to spend, and you need a decent pistol, Ruger's fine.

If you want some really nice, the Beretta 92's hard to beat.

If you want something that you can never get enough of, look at Sig.

Sorry for tossing in Sig. But, for about the same price as a 92, you might be able to have a 226.

But, others will have their opinions.
