The frame wouldn't be the problem, it's the breech face/extractor dimensions of the slide that would cause you problems. These dimensions vary depending on the rim diameter of the cartridge.

The nominal size for the .38 Super is .405. 10mm is .424, and .45 ACP is .476. Because of this you would be way better off, in using a slide originally made for a .38 Super/9mm then one made for .45 ACP.

Remember, that the 38 Super in a 1911 has a fully supported chamber. The 10mm needs this also...hence the use of the 38 super frame.

What about a complete upper (slide, barrel, bushingetc..)in 10mm and a 45acp lower, dose that fit and work? Just been wanting a 10mm since the FBI ditched it because it was over penetrating. Always wanted a Delta Elite and could never afford. When I saw that someone had a conversion that would fit a 38super, I thought why wouldn't it work on a 45 frame. I have two 45 1911 and sometimes you can pick up a frame fairly reasonable. I am watching a 10mm slide now for 275. and a barrel for less than 100. If it worked I could finally have my 10mm 1911...

It would work equally well on either the .38 or .45 frames. The only basic difference in these is the ejector. You just very carefully remove the ejector retaining pin to change ejectors. Brownells and other suppliers sell hardened steel ejectors that are easily changeable because they are a drop in fit rather then the interference fit like the stock ejectors Colt fits to their guns.

That is why they got it in the first place(for penetration), in hindsight of the Miami shootout, where the 9mm's didn't penetrate what they needed to. The reason they ditched it is because many of their un-experienced, and small framed agents, couldn't handle the full power 10mm.
