Stevens 410 pump model 79

I was trying to find some info out on this shotgun. I checked the completed auctions and found all kinds of 410's. No Stevens. I know it was made by Savage.

I'm trying to find if it was made only with the full choke. I wanted to shot some slugs through it but don't think that would be a good idea if it is a full choke. there are no markings indicating choke... only the number "3" which I take for 3 in. shells.

Also does anyone have a DOM, sn D135...

Thanks Gents,

" I wanted to shot some slugs through it but don't think that would be a good idea if it is a full choke. "..........slugs will work fine in a full choke, if you want a 'test', cut open a .410 slug and i'll bet the actual slug will fall threw the full choke barrel.

Unless the barrell information states that it can shoot slugs, don't try it. Why risk the probable personal injury. If by firing a slug and the barrell were to over pressurize it could transform the barrell into shrapnel. Not to mention the fact of being out a firearm. Its just not worth it, IN MY OPINION!

Are you sure you have the model number correct? I looked through four reference books and could find neither a Stevens or Savage Model 79. Did find a Model 69.

quote: I have a book that lists "Model 79-VR Super-Value" Hammerless, side eject, vent rib barrel, 2 3/4 & 3", 12, 20, 410, Walnut finished hardwood, checkered grip, made from 1979-1990.

    HenryORiely...
Here are a couple of pics of the gun in question. No checkering or vented rib but notice the model 79. Do you think the DOM is 1979-1990? or is this a totally different gun?

BTW any ballpark on value...it's not for sale but for insurance purposes?

Slugs should not be a problem. Shot them through my A5 Browning years back and no problem with full choke gun. Supposed to be more accurate with Cylinder bore but had no problem hitting and killing deer out to 75 or 80 yardw sith my 12 guage.
