Does anyone know what the XTR stands for? I called Winchester and they didn't!!! All they could tell me was approx. year made(1986). I've compared 94's and mine looks like a Deluxe but is labeled XTR.

Any idea's on the XTR meaning?
I think it just means "Extra" due to the fancier wood and gloss finish.
There is no given explanation for what the "XTR" name stood for, and I agree with Spider's comment.

My recollection is that not all XTRs had checkering. Am I correct?
EDIT:
Thanks, Spider & Bert. I was aware of the 9422 XTR, with out checkering. I used to have a 9422 Magnum XTR, without checkering. I may have confused the 9422, with the 94. Thanks, again
Thanks,

Thanks,
The early 9422 XTR's were not checkered but I'm not sure about the Model 94's.

While I can not say with 100% assurity, I believe that the Model 94 XTRs did indeed have checkered stocks as a standard feature throughout the entire production run.
