I'm looking at a Winchester 1873, in 44-40.
It is the Sporting rifle, second model.
Most of the finish is gone, some pitting. You can read the top line of the writing on the barrel, second line is worn at the begining of the writing. Otherwise some small dings, and dents in the barrel.
Barrel edges are rounded over, not sharp.
The dust cover, and related parts are gone.
The action seems to cycle well, I did not run shells through it. Hammer dropped, no problem.
It's missing the elevator for the rear sight.
Front sight is a brass blade, steel base.
The lever does not stay fully closed(I know about the latch), just wondered if they should stay tight to the stock?
Most of the screws are buggered, some are modern.
Butt stock is dented, and dinged, possible crack at the rear of the tang. All of the parts are there, and work for the cleaning rod chamber, except the rod.
Forearm has a prtty good sliver of wood missing(1/4"x5"s), right where it covers the barrel. Otherwise just dinged, and dented, finish isn't even bad.
What are your thoughts price wise?
Thanks
Jim

It seems pretty much any old '73 starts around $1000 or so up and down a bit from there depending on actual condition......
just my humble opinion......
