I recently acquired a Sako 222 and I'd like to find some information on the possible value. It say SAKO Ruhimaki No 4560 on the reciever. The Blueing is fading the stock looks like it might have been stained but only because the checkering is darker than the rest...but I've seen photos like this as well. There is a unertl 4x Hawk mounted on it so there isn't a rear site but the front site is present.

thanks for any help or for pointing me in the right direction.

Nice early rifle It should have a removable Magazine and safety on the cocking piece. These rifles have some collector interest but like all collector guns CONDITION is everything A refinished stock and Faded bluing will take it into In My Opinion into the SHOOTER range of Value . Rifle made in the EDIT I gave you date. and best estimate of value without pictures up close good lighting in focus late 1960's 1960's The Scope if it is a hawk "I have one is a normal 1" tube with turrets Not the long Target Unertl type scope that bring big $$ I would guess without pictures RIG worth $500.00

I have an early L-46 Sako made for Marlin who barreled it with a micro-groove medium heavy barrel and sold it as their model 322. It is basically a miniature Mauser with a detachable 3-round box magazine. They usually have a 1 in 14" barrel twist designed around the 50 grain bullet. It is a great little rifle and very capable of fine accuracy. Prices are highly driven by condition - the Sako name is well known for quality so the internal and external condition of the rifle will drive values. If yours has the detachable box magazine it will be an L-46, if the magazine is internal it is probably an L-461.

The Marlin 322 was made from 1954-57 these would probably be about the same dates for the Sako. With your low SN I would guess fairly early in the run.

The safety on mine is a crank shaped lever on the upper right rear of the bolt group. It is mounted on a box-like structure and does engage and disengage positively.

Hang onto those scope mount bases they are unique to the Sako - they mount on a double dovetail system. you'll want to determine whether the rings are 1", 26mm or 30mm to get the correct tube diameter or adaptor.

Yes, sorry I don't have photos yet. But it does have the removeable magazine. I'd say the blueing is 45% and the stock has normal wear but nothing major wrong with it. It does have an odd safety, it is actually part of the bolt and when you flip it up it rotates on the bolt. Snaps down pretty hard when you release it...

It doesn't say that it is a magnum.

It is an L46, it says it on the top of the receiver. It has scope rings. But no rear sites.. only the front site.

Can anyone tell me a date for this? the serial number is 4560.
