Cylinder Gap

I have a Colt DA revolver. When uncocked the cylinder gap is about right. When I cock the gun the cylinder face just touches the barrel with no gap, any danger there?

In that condition the headspace has increased as the cylinder moved forward. Also, as things get worse(if not already) you will be able to see an imprint of the rear of the barrel on the face of the cylinder at each chamber location.
Barrel/cylinder gap should be about .003-.005.
One time remedy in to have the cylinder collar stretched and refit.
Otherwise, it is new cylinder time.
Usual cause is the frame is stretched from shooting hot loads.

Find a good gunsmith. They make shims to adjust the back and forth movement of the cylinders.
You need to check it for anymore wear of parts also.

It locks up tight and is an accurate shooter. It shows no signs of wear, other than a little end shake, which is probably the reason the cylinder touches the barrel when cocked. I guess the hand pushes it forward.

I wouldn't worry about about it so long as the it cycles smoothly through a full cylinder. (But then there a lot of things I don't worry about that I probably should.) I don't have fitted rods to check cylinder alignment, so if I suspect that may be a problem I'll fold a thin piece of cardboard in half and drape it over the frame, then shoot. I like to see even burn marks on both halves. (left and right) If one side is clearly more damaged than the other; evidence of lead spitting, etc. then it's off to a competent 'smith. Another good test is to shoot with folks to your left and right and see if one guy consistently cusses you out more than the other. Don't recommend that, though I've known it to reliably indicate an alignment problem![:D][:D]
