Numerous Guns (list 2)

I need to sell off most of my dad's gun collection to pay for his funeral. I don't know what some of these guns are, nor do I know the worth of any. I would greatly appreciate any help from you knowledgeable folks. I can quickly supply larger images if the thumbnails aren't enough.

Note to buyers: These aren't for sale quite yet (4-20-11). One of them (the over/under barrel, I believe) belongs to someone else, one is an heirloom (Egyptian model, I'm guessing), and I'll also be keeping the Baretta. When they do go up for sale, I'll only ship to an FFL. Will likely update with detailed conditions when I get things figured out.

5: Winchester Mod 12-12ga Full. Serial: 257907. Will get detailed pics up soon. Note that when I rotate the gun, it sounds like a spring is sliding in the bottom hand grip.

6: J.C. Higgins Model 66 (the hand grip is missing, so may be worthless)

7: Stevens Model .22-.410 (I think this is someone else's gun)

8: Coast to Coast Stores Model 843 (I think a scope is missing, but I found several scopes in a separate box)

In this group the Winchester Model 12 is the key gun and you need to provide some good photos of that one because it is where your money is going to come from at auction.

What would buyers be interested in seeing? Scratches, chips, etc? Between the guns and a few other large items items, I need to come up with $8k, so I want to do this thing right :-)

Also, is that the 12-12's real name? It's what I found on the gun, but it seems rather generic.

A Model 12 Winchester is in fact a Model 12 and there is a buyer for every Winchester ever produced and a buyer for every Winchester that ever will be produced! if you want top $$$ at auction you'll need photos of as many details, the good ones and the bad ones, as well as the full serial number because the age of the gun makes a HUGE differnce. I am not a Winchester guy but we have plenty of them.

I am not even close to being a Model 12 man but that serial number (257907) has to be from the early 1920s and there has to be collector interest in any Model 12 from that period. Good photos (and be sure that they are larger than a postage stamp!) and details are needed for a real evaluation.

The Model 12 is a July 1920 vintage gun.

The .22/.410 is probably 3-400 range hard to tell with the small pic.

I think #8 is a Savage mod. 340 I would be curious as to the cal. I have one in .222 and it will shoot chucks from 50 to 200 yds. all day long. Good gun for the money. just my .02[:)]

The Winchester Model 12, base value $ 500.00 or more if excellent.
The "handgrip" is called the forearm and slides over a magazine tube. The loose thing is the wood plug in the mag tube to prevent more than 2
shells to be loaded. Nothing to worry about. It can be removed easily.

The Stevens condition will be based on the "color case hardening" left on the receiver, and if the wood is walnut or hardwood on the stock. I'd say $350-450ish.

Sorry to hear your father passed away, my condolences.

    Good luck Thor.

Will need more complete pictures of the J.C. Higgins. These were made for Sears by various large manufacturers. Many by High Standard, but also by Savage, Stevens and Winchester. A larger picture may enable someone to recognize the mfg and give you a lead on where to get the fore end that is missing. These don't bring big money, but someone looking for a farm gun or plain old shooter may be interested. The Winchester M-12 looks like a good honest field gun and there will be a line of people wanting it. The Coast-to-Coast looks like a Savage they were made for large retailers and stamped with their brands. Most ofter found in .22 Hornet, .222 Remington and .30-30. A good serviceable knock around gun. You have the scope base attached so the matching scope may be in your box.
