Savage 1899 Takedown

Looking at a savage 1899 takedown, nice gun. The barrel is just very lightly loose, hardly any play at all, you really have to be trying to find it to know it is there. It was headspaced, checked and test fired by a licensed smith, who shot a box of ammo thru it. Everything functioned correctly and no signs of pressure problems, stretched cases or anything. He said it was an excellent rifle, play in barrel was nothing to worry about. Any opinions on this slight play in barrel?

I have a lever-action Savage 1899 Takedown with two interchangeable barrels: one is a 410 shotgun and the other is a 250/3000 rifle. It is in its original felt-lined leather case. To date, no one has been able to tell me what it is worth. NO ONE! No one has even heard of or seen this barrel combination. I can't find it anywhere either. I don't want to sell it (unless it is worth something rediculous); I just want to know what it is worth. Can anyone help???

I have seen similar outfits before. Value would be considerable depending on the originality and cosmetic condition of the rifle, extra shotgun barrel and case. Post quality photos of all of the above.

There is one on the auction side although in 303 rather than 250-3000 with the 410 extra barrel. Asking price is $1385 but there are no bids.

    ngdgu631,

Hello, and welcome to the forums here on Gunbroker.

The 250-3000 chambered rifles tend to bring more, depending on condition. I would assume that this combination, would be the conerstone of a collection, if it were all original, in 95% or better condition. Once again, condition is everything. If you can obtain some pictures similar to the ones in the auction listed above, I am sure we could generate some values for you.

    EDIT 1

I went to image shack and looked at your pictures. That surely appears to be original. It is in close to 95% condition, and would fetch a minimum of $2500.00 in the right area. Very nice piece, and you don't see too many that are better than that.

Thats good to hear. That being said, and since I could get a decent price for it, where would be a good place to auction it? Here? Ebay? Another site?

OK. Here are some pictures. If they aren't clear enough, I can give you the Image Shack name and you can look at them there. Let me know if you need anything additional. Thanks for all your help.

Very Nice! Best one I have ever run across. Put it on the GB auction if you really have to sell it. Consider holding on to it though. It will never go down in value, and because of the current economy problems, it would likely get a lot more bids when things turn around.
