Ballistic Knife

I am looking for an original, or American copy of a ballistic knife that fires a knife blade. I don't need the spring (which is the part that makes this illegal), just the knife for a story we are doing on this knife based on the Russian Spetsnaz version that fired the blade with a spring.
We are looking for an original or American copy of this ballistic knife that was sold in the mid 1980's. We are intererested in borrowing, renting or purchasing this knife for a documentary.
Or, if you can point me in a direction of where to find this.
Please ONLY email me, no phone calls. Thanks

Aren't those illegal? I really don't think anyone here would have one of those.

Not illegal if you don't have the spring.

Not necessarily illegal, they're just regulated in the same way as automatic openers or switchblades. That being said, I doubt you'll find what you're looking for, interstates commerce laws come into play.

If you read the post, you'll see he is looking for one WITHOUT THE SPRING which would be legal.

The actual Spetsnaz knives have been illegal to import into the USA since 1986, with or without the springs. Since the Soviet Union in the pre 1986 days was not exactly a close friend of the USA meant that the Soviets were not making it a habit to sell their equipment to us. This means that getting one's hands on a genuine example involved getting into Russia, finding the knife in a GRU depot and smuggling it out of the USSR and into the USA...Or killing a Spetsnaz operative and taking his blade away from him. Either option was not exactly easy to manage. Finding one of the genuine articles here in the USA (and an owner willing to lend it to you and let you play with it for a while) is about as likely as finding Obama's birth certificate or actual weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, which means not likely at all!

Contact these folks and see if they have any interest in lending you some assistance:

Here is an original brochure for the American made ballistic knife. What is the current value of one today?

Just a suggestion...but, there are many "high-end" collectors of VERY hard to find pieces, "Out The Fronts", Microtechs and occasionally "DKW"s Desert Knife Works, Sand Sharks and quite possible what you are seeking. Check out the site: "Microholics", registration is free and most informative.

    Good Luck.
