Side by side rifle research

An elderly neighbor brought a double, side by side, barreled rifle he confiscated from a farmhouse in Germany during WWII to me. I'm researching it for him because it looks so interesting.

It has two names on the under side - L.Christophe and A. Bruxelles. It also has a mounted scope with the name Rudiger on it.

I'd like to post a picture but I don't know how yet. This is my first visit to the forum.

Can anyone offer suggestions to get me started in my search to learn more about this interesting rifle.

Thanks for any help.

Hello In Germany most hunting before WW II was done with DRILLINGS and double rifles along with African hunting for dangerous game . There was the feeling then that a double rifle was better for follow up shots at dangerous game..Most of these firearms were hand built for hunters with deep pockets. The proof marks can tell us what country it was made in and the names could be who made it or who it was made for. Depending on condition and caliber of this gun it May be worth fairly large $.We need all proof marks and good detailed pictures if possible.

Here's a hipshot. I think you will find that it is L. Christophe a Bruxelles which means that it was made by/for a Mr. Christophe in Bruxelles or in English, Brussels in Belgium. Bruxelles is the French spelling and in German probably Brussel with umlaut over the 'u'. It should have proof & other marks (as Perry said) that can ID source and probably something about when. Take off the barrels and look for the marks on the bottom of the breech area on both the bbls and the receiver. With enough effort and some luck you probably can find out quite a lot about this piece.

My reference identifies the maker as being the firearms business of, Louis Christophe.
Located at Gallerie de la Reine, Brussels Belgium. This is a well known business over there, thats been active since the 19th Century. Chances are it's a high quality/valuable gun.

Rudiger is also listed as a scope manufacturer in the scope book. Their scopes were imported into the States as late as the 1960's. No imformation is given on their earlier pre W W II scopes.

First thing you need is a site to host your picture. What I mean by that is that you will need to upload your pictures to a web site that will host(display) them for you. You should not use your hard drive to host pictures for safety sake. Use www.photobucket.com to host your pictures.

After you have uploaded your pictures to the site that will host them for you(per their directions), the next thing you will want to do is go to the picture hosting site and view the picture. While you are viewing the picture, right click on it and you'll see another window that should pop up, now click on "properties" and copy the picture URL. If you know how to "copy & paste" this will be a piece of cake.

Now that you have the picture URL and your ready to post your picture. Do the following, use the following code except take out the "*" asterisk. The "*" asterisk is used here only so you can see the code. In other words if I posted the code without the "*" asterisk you will see a picture instead of the code. Anyways use this code to post your picture..
    [*img]the picture URL goes here[*/img]
