    Try writing Marlin Firearms Co
    100 Kenna Dr
    North Haven, Ct 06473

    Attn: Historian

Give discriptive info and S/n. There was no charge for a letter last I heard.

I concur with v35 in that a letter to Marlin as noted is good advice for you. You might also find some interest in the following info:

On page 205 of the book, "Marlin Firearms" by LtCol. William S. Brophy:

"Model 1893 serial numbers are stamped into the bottom front end of the trigger plate. The highest reported to date is 448,355.

A total of 69,100 Model 1893 rifles and 4,086 carbines were produced from 1893 to 1906 for a grand total of 73,186 Model 1893s made.

There was a new series started without a prefix, and there were some rifles with an alphabetical prefixed nunber that were also marked on the trigger plate. To add to the numbner-game confusion, the model designation was changed from Model 1893 to Model '93. Some of the '93 serial numbers included B, C, and D. prefixes that are found on either the trigger plate or the lower tang."
