Ok I'm having a hard time finding a Savage Striker in 22lr so I've started looking at the G2 Contender Pistol in 22lr. My question is if I buy one in 22lr could I put a centerfire barrel like say 30/30 or 45/70 gov't? Or would I need a new receiver?

    D&D,

    From the TC website:

"Maintaining the same barrel interchangeability, the same time proven long range accuracy, and the same adaptability of converting to rim fire or center fire, the new G2 Contender has added some features which make it even more user friendly in the field. In addition, the grip, frame, and forend have been profiled and sculpted for a more modern and streamlined appearance. Size and weight remained approximately the same, adding less than 1/10th of a pound to the frame assembly.

The versatility of the G2 Contender is unmatched by any other handgun in the world. From plinking and small game hunting with rim fire cartridges, to varmint and big game hunting with center fire rifle the G2 Contender will continue to be the handgun of choice for those that pride themselves in wanting only the best."

    Best.

    D@D,

In short, YUP! You can swap most any .22lr barrel out and stick most any short action small caliber on a G2 action, 30-30 included. If you want a larger or higher pressure rifle caliber you may need to go to an Encore action. The place to start is here at their website: http://www.tcarms.com/ -good luck

I have quite a few T/C frames & barrels. It's a great deal of fun assembling a shooting set up with the Contender & Encore. The Contender limits itself to lower pressure rifle cartridges such as the 30.30 or 45/70 and of course all handgun calibers. Hopefully you will be reloading. Since you mentioned 2 calibers I already have in handgun form I'll put out 2 suggestions - the 223 and the 375 JDJ. The 223 is great fun & accurate, the 375 is a boomer and very accurate.

The Encore will handle, as a handgun or rifle, almost any caliber out there. I've recently added a 350 Rem Mag & 375 H & H Mag, each with about a 15.5" bbl, and they are accurate if not a handful to shoot.

Check out Match Grade Machine for a list of about 300 calibers you can get for the T/C.

I'd suggest visiting the Specialty Pistols forum. These guys are into the T/C quite heavy.

I'll be willing to bet you will like the G2 better than a Striker, and I'll second the usefullness of the 375JDJ because it is a awesome cartridge.
