What to replace the Red Dot with?

I have had a BSA Red Dot scope on my Ruger MkII for some time now; and it works well. However, I don't really like red dots. Reason one is that initial and re-acquisition of the red dot on target is often hard in sunny weather. More importantly though, the battery keeps draining! I shoot the gun once every 3 months or so and every time, the battery is dead, unless I take it out of the scope which is starting to chew up the cover, and can't be good for the contacts (which already look pretty wimpy). I don't know if it just drains it or if it is because the on button presses the sides of the pistol case (every time I check, it is OFF despite this, but who knows what happens with the closet fairies) but anyhow, I want to replace it.

I would like a scope that gives some magnification while at it. With crosshairs. So who can recommend a pistol scope with at least a modicum of magnification, and that doesn't cost $500? In point of fact, I'd like to keep it under $100.
