Remington 870 Express

I've heard both good and bad things about Remington's Model 870 Express in comparison to the 870 Wingmaster. Is it worth paying twice the $$$$ for the Wingmaster?

I was told or read some where that the early 870 Express receivers which have serial numbers that end with a "M" were Magnums. Does anyone know this to be true? Thank you.

I am about to purchase a new Remington 870 Express. I havent had alot of experience with shotguns but was wondering if this gun had a interchangeable choke? Is that pretty much standard with all shotguns these days?

I purchased this shotgun back in the mid nineties. I believe it was 1996. Anyway in 1998 I think it was I recieved a notification of a class action suit against Remington for possible barrel damage from firing the shotgun. I fired both the bird and deer slug barrel prior to this notification. My serial number on the shotgun appeared on the
the list of possible defective barrels. Now that my children are grown and I have time to hunt again I was wondering if you have any information about this class action suit and whether it is safe for me to use this shotgun.

No it is not. Unless you like walnut rather than birch and bright blue rather than matte metal finish. The Express is intended to be a utility firearm and it does it very well. RJSnow

if bluing and walnot is worth $200 more to you it is.
plain express will still last you 60 years and 50k rounds!

Express is a value gun. Have had one for years. Would buy another.

I have both and have shot a ton of rounds through them. The Wingmaster has a smoother action but after some use the Express gets pretty smooth as well. I don't worry about scuffing my Express like I do my Wingmaster. I think that if I were buying a new gun and was only going to have one or the other I would probably go with the express unless you can find a good used Wingmaster.

The express is the most popular shotgun. It is ugly though. And if you want something that looks good in the case and you have the cash, then get the wingmaster

    Hey,

I found a new Rem. express super mag 3 1/2 inch at walmart on clearance for $175.00. Got home and found on the internet that there was a $50.00 rebate on the shotgun. Got the rebate and had less than $140.00 in a brand new Rem. Express. Used the rebate to buy the upgrade kit with the extra chokes and wrench.

Like someone stated, it is a little ruff but it seems to be loosening up as I shoot it.

P.S. I like the subdued finish, I plan on putting a camo paint job on it anyway. Not something I would do to a Wingmaster.

My sons and I all three hunt mainly with Remington 870 Express shotguns. They have always been reliable and accurate. I have a couple of Wingmasters and other expensive shotguns. They usually stay in the safe,
