I've come across a New England Pardner 20 gauge pump shotgun and I was wondering what the experts think of New England firearms. It's model number is NP1-206. I've never heard of them and wasn't sure if it was worth my time. Thanks.

I agree with captkirk, they are not anything real special. It may be good for some purposes,if you're getting a smoking deal on it, maybe its worth it. I started shooting shotgun as a kid with a NE break action 20 gauge and I think its a good kids gun, teaches you to get your birds with the first shot versus multiple follow up shots. If you're paying new retail, I suggest getting an extra 125 bucks together and getting a remington 870. I don't know an 870 is going to appreciate either but in MY opinion its a significantly better shotgun for a few bucks more.

NEF is back again. You can pick them up at Gander Mountain and Sportsmans Warehouse, amongst other places.

I've not been all that impressed with them, and parts allegedly need to be changed out at the factory. So, if you want a new barrel, instead of just ordering it, you have to send your shotgun to the factory.

I've got a brother-in-law who made the mistake of purchasing a NIB 12-gauge.

A NEF was my boys "first" gun in 410 and it worked well. Now he deer hunts with a 20 guage, (NEF)and everything works well. I have no problem with them,. if its a good buy, get it. They always sell at my local auction...imo.nambu

    Huntingnerd33,

Many folks don't care for the H&R pumps because they are a mechanical copy of Remington's 870 and are made in China. The old H&R single shots many people grew up with were made in America and still are. I have heard the pumps are well made. The Communist Chinese Government owns all the gun manufacturing plants to fund their military build-up. That bothers some people.

Thety are not chinese anymore from what I hear.

Sarsilmaz was stamped on the Auto 5 I saw last week and the new pumps have that trademark Turkish humpback reciever.

H&R1871/NEF has been owned by Marlin since 1999. the pump shotguns were imported after that time. i don't know who the current manufacturer is for the 'partner pump' but i believe that name has been dropped in favor of the 'excell pump' when the change of manufacturer was made. since i don't keep up with the company after the marlin purchase this information comes from what i have seen on the web, and at gunshows.
