M1 windage nob

on my (rebuilt) M1 garand it has an "M" to the right of the numbers. I've been told that the M1 sight went by yards and the M-14 went by meters. so does that mean the M is for meter and I have the wrong nob or does it mean somthing else? is there a chance that this is an m-14 nob or are they not interchangeable?

look very closely....is there a faded 'N' in front of the 'M?'
NM would be a national match site.

Next is the M14 is a great battle rifle. One thing I wonder about is what the volisity of a .223 round hitting the target in 600 meter in the high power matches. Is this like the NASCAR having none manufactured modified cars that should be front wheel dirve.

btw...garand and 14 sights are interchangable; and, all my 14's have M on them.

NASCAR use to require that all cars be factory stock , now they are running modifyed front wheel cars on the track with rear wheel dirve. The M14 I am sure will hit the target at a high enough volisity to kill something at 600 meters, will the M16. I don't drink that much, I have to many guns to keep clean.

    Thank, you
