I've got an old stevens that has been in the family for years. The gun rusted once and reciever was cleaned to bare metal. Is there any way to get the case coloring back in home shop? I read here that they were"cyanide process" colored, what is that? Any other ideas? Thanks.

Hello People like Doug Turnbull do a very good job restoring Colt Single actions AND OLDER WINCHESTER'S big bucks IMHO this is not something to try at home CYANIDE can and will KILL you and heating a action hot enought to do it by the charcoal and leather method can warp the action. some people have tried to use a torch and it looks like $#^& even worst then the worst cold blue job. I vote to leave as is . IT will never be a $5000.00 dollar parker and is a good object lesson to remind you to maintain your firearms.
