what cal is this old Marlin 32W

,,,picked up an old marlin model 1889 ??,,,barrel is marked with pat dates of oct 11 1887 and apr 2 1889,,,and is also marked 32W,,,would this be 32 win or 32 win spl ??,,,any help is appreciated

    According to the Blue Book, the only .32 that the 1889 was chambered in was .32 WCF (.32-20). But, as always, if you are not 100% sure, have a gunsmith check it. BTW, a .32 Win. Special round shouldn't come close to chambering in a .32-20.

    Hello spookster,

    As farfromnormal noted, it would be the .32 WCF (.32-20). The .32 WS would be far too long for the pistol-cartridge length action of the 1889, as would the .32-40 win.
