i am in the market for a 45acp,i am leaning toward the Kimber
Desert Warrior. i will not shoot it every weekend in fact after
2 weeks of purchase it might get shot once every 6 months. the
main reason i am looking at the Desert Warrior is the finish.
it will be in a holster in my truck 24 7. if you own one of
these please give me your thoughts of it. thank you

The Kimber is a great choice, but if it is not going to be shot maybe a handful of times in 6 months, you might want to look at a Ruger GP-100 .357 magnum in a 3"-4" barrel. There are no spring magazines to worry about (over time the tension may fail to feed correctly), no safety and manual of arms to remember as there is with a 1911. With the revolver, you can load it and forget it. I have a S&W model 28 that I have had literally loaded for 10 years now and when it goes to the range it fires every time. Revolvers are point and shoot weapons and can take a beating from storage in areas such as trucks. If you are set on a 1911, you picked a great one to get. Just my .02 worth.

For get the 1911 get a Glock...no manually saftey and springs will not wear out due to keeping it loaded

Good points... I suggest buying the kimber and take her out and shoot it evey once in a while...If you can't or won't then the revolver may indeed be a better option. And for a totally different reason. If you ever need that gun that revolver will be up and ready for action long before any 1911 that you aren't well in tune with (thats you not the gun)...And I am a major 1911 fan...

All good advice. I love the Kimber. I have a Desert Warrior, but my truck gun is a stainless steel revolver. I shoot it twice a year to freshen the ammo and stay familiar with the trigger pull. In my opinion, leave-in-truck guns are revolvers only. Plus, it will hurt more if your Kimber gets stolen.

Seems like an awful nice gun for the use you described.
My buddy has a Kimber Desert Warrior, it is a really decent 1911A1 clone.

You are probably not going to like this but as a Kimber owner , I feel qualified to respond. LOVE my Kimbers!!! But for what you want to do, a Springfield XD 45 is in order. Preferably a 5" tactical Bi-Tone. You will never look back. My 2c

I do have Kimber's, Para-Ordanance's, and Colt 1911's. I don't have a Desert Warrior, but can tell you anything from Kimber is top shelf. I will tell you, that most likely after you shoot it, it will go to the range frequently...more so than twice a year I'm thinkin'. It is always nice to give the fella's at the range something to talk about. If you are not experienced with a 1911, the suggestions of a DA revolver, Springfield XD, or a Glock(I own a 10MM model 29), are great choices also.
