y'all, got one of these, it is great gun. but , this one has some stubborn carbon fouling on the mag tube between the barrel seal activator and the barrel seal o ring.what is the best way to get rid of the fouling?i don't wanna get too agressive w/ it, and i am not sure what solvents to use. i tried a rust removal clothe by hoppes, but no luck w/ this.i have changed the o ring as it was worn out, no surprise. thanks, steve k

Rem-oil and fine steel wool. Should clean with no problems.

The Remington 1187 is a very nice gun and requires a little maintance now and then. I shoot one in skeet tournaments and after about 100 to 125 shells, I clean off the magazine tube with a little steel wool and I'm good to go again. When I didn't do this very often, seems like the rings broke and the O-ring wore out or broke more often.

    Good luck with it--nice gun....

After a round of sporting clays i wipe it down with clenzoil, let it sit a little bit, then wipe it down with an old rag. Cleaner burning powders help alot to prevent this problem.

When I bought my "used" 1187, I had to use a knife to lightly scrape the crud off, it was built up so bad. Since then steel wool has worked for me too.
