Kel-Tec p-3AT

What do you think of it? I am looking for a pocket pistol for those situtaitons in which even a J frame won't conceal. I have a NAA derringer that is good...but even it makes a lump. This thing LOOKS good. I imagine it isn't up to a lot of use but I only plan to put 2 or 3 mags per year thru it just to keep up my ability at minimum distances.

And before anyone asks...YES I HAVE REAL PISTOLS TOO!!! LOL

I am just looking for something to get me back to my truck.

Any imput is appreciated.

Nice little pistol. I've shot about 200 rounds through mine . Reliable, accurate (within reason) and recoil is OK (25 rounds of practice will not hurt). In fact the handling is definately better than the PPK IMHO.
    Concealability is excellent.

I love mine. You forget it's there.

The DA trigger pull sucks, and there is quite a muzzleblast. It also recoils pretty crisply. But for the money, you can't beat it. It'll do the job in a pinch.

My P3AT has been replaced with a PT111 for those days when it isn't extremely hot. If it is very hot I'll bring the Keltec as it conceals much better.

Go with one, you'll like it.

Some of them have reliability issues, though I think for what it is (a small inexpensive lightweight polymer gun) its pretty good.

It will probably do what you need of it, but I'd suggest putting a lot of ammo through it for break-in and to assure yourself of its reliabilty before carrying it "for real".

Considering that a J-frame will slip in the average pants or jacket pocket, there really aren't too many situations where you can't carry one if you really want to. (EG at the nudist colony [:p]).

Personally, I think its hard to beat a Smith 642 for pocket carry. Gun is light, wheelgun (unlike autos) is 100% reliable and can be fired from WITHIN the pocket, if necessary, and .38+P is a better round than .380.

There aren't many choices when it comes to minimum size, thickness and weight. The P3AT is about optimum.
The NAA is slower to get into action and may fall out of your hand in cocking it.
The old Baby Hammerless is smaller and can be handled faster but is underpowered.

The Keltecs are not delicate guns. You can shoot them as much as you want. If you want even better concealment, look at the P32 instead of the P3AT.

There is no comparison between the Keltec and any J frame revolver. The K/T simply is smaller, flatter, lighter.

I carry mine every where I go off duty. Hardly know it's there. I recommend getting the +1 mag extension as well.

I agree with stank and cubs. Accuracy is maybe a little better than a derringer. Look in "search" for 'Hip Pocket Holster' I made for mine.

Thanks for the imput. And I have a J frame and it is considerably different from this P3AT in concealability(is this a word?)

The old lady put down the first $ 250 on it as a valentines present...I think I will keep both!!!!

Now to get it to the range. Thanks for the suggestion about breaking it in. I probably would have thought of it before going to the range but.....you just never know!!! I will break it in with some moderate .380's and carry hydroshocks....and yes I will practice with some hydro's as well!!

Again, thanks...this board is great for getting a wide variety of imput for decision making.
