Tried looking the value up in the sold auctions, but couldn't find that any had been sold so I'm hoping someone can tell me about what they are going for.

Have an opportunity to purchase a model 624 with 6 1/2" barrel from a local individual. It has been fired some and has a few minor dings on it. Is $500. too much to pay for it? Thanks in advance. [?][:0] [?]

    You didn't try hard enough.

A gun doesn't actually have to be sold to tell you its value. For example, the highest amount bid (even if the gun is unsold) tells you the most someone is willing to pay.

$500 is too much to pay for the gun.

nmyers, I went to the completed auctions and typed in Smith & Wesson model 24 44sp. and all I got was a message sayin no items matching your description were found. Then tried S&W 624 44special with the same results. Tried it several ways with the same response. Is there a better way to search completed auctions?

Thanks to both for the quick response confirmed what I thought - that he wanted too much for it.

I paid $450 for mine last year. It has a 3inch barrel and round butt finger groove combat grips. I have seen them sell in other barrel lengths for $400-$450. A nice box and papers should be worth about $50 more. $500 for an exceptionally nice one with box and papers is about right for retail in a gun store. To appreciate it more, simply look at the prices of new Smiths today. Even common ones sell for around $500

If you key in too many words in the search, you limit the hits to those with ALL the words. Simply key "624".

just go to revolvers and type 624 you should come up with about 6 hits

500 is not that bad of price , private seller , not tax , no papers ,if you like the gun and want it try asking if he would take a little less and see what happens
