Cetme Problem

Just bought a new Century Arms CETME. Looks great, but the action takes way too much force to cock. Can I disassemble and polish the internals? Once the lower is removed the bolt works smoothly and the charging handle is still sticky. [^]

I have a Century Arms Cetme that has a problem. This relates to the mag's fitting and locking in place. I have mainly G3 mag's. About half will lock up OK but a very tight, the others will not lock up. What is the best way to fix this problem. Is it the gun mag catch or can the Mag's be milled some to make them fit properly? Any help on this would be appreciated.
PS all the mag's are a very tight fit in the mag well.

    Hi,

IMHO, the G3 and HK mags are so inexpensive, I would throw out the ones that don't work and replace them with new ones that do work.

I had the same problem and figured that since the mags are so cheap that working them over was the way to go. If I remember correctly I removed some material from the latch groove with a file and they fit and functioned fine. If you mess one up chuck it.

There are three types of CAI receivers, stamped steel, stamped stainless and cast stainless. Yours is probably cast, which causes radii in the mag well larger than the stamped mag wells. The HK mags are a bit bigger than CETME mags.

I solved this problem for a friend in a machinists vise, gently squeezing and fitting a few HK mags. Some took a slap to get them to engage the mag release but I got them all to fit. Don't know how well they cycled.

EDIT: IIRC it took a few squeezes along both of the axes to make them fit.

EDIT II: If I am correct and your receiver is stainless cast I am told you have the best receiver. CETME mags are a bit more but should fit if the HK ones won't.

Another option may be to broach the inside corners on a mill. The mag well walls will probably be a little thick still but the majority of the problem is in the inside corners, as I see it.

Thanks for the replies so far. My receiver is the stamped regular steel version. I have one Cetme mag and it too is very tight and just barely snaps in place. Any further help is appreciated.

Couldn't you put a wooden block inside a 20rd mag to limit it to 5rds? That's what I would do.
