Dirty Winchester 290 (I mean filthy)

I paid a "gunsmith" $40-50 bucks to clean this auction find Winchester 290.
I had it "out back" today running some cheap Remington .22s through it and it started to hang up and was not ejecting the spent round.
I took it down and the inside was gross, I mean filthy. I have never seen a gun this dirty, but I'm sure there are more out there.
I need to get this thing clean.
With some Hopps No. 9 and an old tooth brush I was able to clean out the inside of the receiver, but I still need to get the bolt and the trigger assembly cleaned.
I think I can handle taking the bolt apart and I may even be able to get it back together, but if I can avoid it I want to try.
As for the trigger assembly, I do not even want to begin to try and take that apart.
What can I do to get this stuff clean?
I was thinking of soaking it for a few day in Hopps, rinsing it off with warm water and repeating a few times. Then blowing it off with air and then soaking it in gun oil.
Any thoughts, suggestions or help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
DSM

Your on the right track. until you can find a dis-assembly drawing or instructions, stay away from taking it all the way DOWN.

Go back to the gunsmith you paid and get a refund also.

Boil it in water and blowdry. Apply appropriate amount of prefered lubricant/oil.

If you have (access to) an air compressor, you can soak the parts in a solvent then use air blow the junk loose. (My Harbor Frieght $150. 10 gallon air compressor was a worthy investment).
I have even gone as far as to put a dis-assembled SKS in a bucket and take it to a car wash to clean Cosmoline out of it.

I've got a simple manual that gives enough information about taking the bolt apart, but I am debating whether or not I have the nerve to attempt it.
I do not want to attempt the trigger assembly.
    Thanks,

Try some powder blast form Break Free. It will clean almost anything. Just be sure not get it on any plastic or wood.

Powder blast or Gun Scrubber spray. Have a little Winchester 22 that dirties up fast no matter what I shoot. Wear glasses/.goggles with the spray- that crap STINGS when you get it in your eyes!

Just curious... What did the gunsmith DO for his $40-50 bucks? Wipe off the outside?[:D]

It would appear that is all he did.
