The barrel is full of old dried up grease.I have used Hoppes No9,Remington 40X bore cleaner, wire brushes and about 300 patches.A good bit of the grease came out but it looks like i haven't touched it.Any ideas on what to use?
Thanks Joe

I use gunslick foaming bore cleaner. Let it sit for several hours and it will dissolve. I've had the best luck cleaning any bore I've had with it.

Is it grease, or is it 'frosting' i.e. light pitting? If the latter, keep working on it...

JB bore paste is good stuff too, or as mentioned, foaming bore cleaner; sticking the muzzle in a bucket of kerosene and working a brush back and forth does wonders as well.

I didn't think it is pitting. You could not even see the rifling's when I started, now you can.Coal black is the color on the patch.I Don't think this gun has ever been fired because of the shape it is in.

If it's grease/cosmolene, than you get your choice of methiods.
    1) place the muzzle in a can of gas, and with a tight patch, from the breach end, "pump" the gas through the barrel (like cleaning a muzzle loader)
    2) same thing, but use boiling hot water instead of the gas.
    3) same thing, but use mineral spirts instead of the gas
    4) if your handy with adapting things, rig up a pan, pump and hose and recirculate mineral spirts through the barrel.
    5) if you know somebody with a "parts washer", drop the barrel/receiver into it overnight.

The idea is to let the solvents do the work. You could even try letting the Hoppies sit soaking in the barrel overnight and brush/patch the next day (nice thing about Hoppies, it won't hurt anything if it sits in the barrel for a extended period of time)
