Anyone have any problems with compact 1911? Are they a good open carry wepon? I have shot many 1911s, but never a smaller one. I like 1911 more than any other high caliber auto pistol.

Ive asked this before but does anyone know anything about the over-johnson thrasher model 3", there is a bunch out there about ria, but cant find any compact model reviews much less ones that seem honest... or recent for that matter. Like the Iver-johnson model, cant afford the kimber or S&W les baer etc. Would be nice for some feedback.

I want to buy one of the compact 1911 style .45's(Springfield, Para or Kimber) for off duty carry. I have not found any compact non-custom 1911's with an ampitextrous thumb safety. ( I'm a lefty) I am sure an ambi safety can be added? Would an aftermarket safety be the same as the full size 1911 or are they completely different? Don't tell me to buy a Glock, XD, etc. already have several of them. Thanks.

I want a compact 1911 around $500 looked at rock island and ATI looking for pros and cons warranty. For a carry gun not having to be pretty. Thanks bob

An ambi safety for any 1911 will work on a compact model to include Detonics, Para, Springfield, Kimber, Dan Wesson, etc .....

Check out Brownells as they offer quite a few. I would not suggest this as a do it yourself project unless you are quite knowledgeable about 1911s. Fitting a plain old 1911 safety requires an in depth understanding of how the safety, hammer & plunger interact and the ambi makes it more challenging. I've fitted a half dozen or so. It's not difficult, just exacting.

I've never been a fan of super compact 1911's till I shot a Kimber CDP Ultra. That little gun can shoot and reliable too.
Check em out! They come with an ambi-safety.

Had a Kimber Ultra Carry, after getting the slide replaced, still not happy. I now have an XD for CCW.

I have a Colt 1991A1 compact model. I had an ambi safety put on it as I am a lefty also. Works great. There are several different brands out there. Find a good gunsmith to make sure the job is done right unless you are comfortable doing it yourself....

Springfield "Loaded" 1911's have ambi safeties...

Get the Colt Defender. End of story. If you don't like it, I will buy it from you.

i have a springfield arory compact lightwieght.

has a 4 inch barrel/slide with the officers size frame. is very lightwieght for a 191 and it shoots great.

comes with a ramped bull barrel, trijicon night sights, an ambi saftey for you southpaws, ans a flat mainsprng housing a beavertail saftey.

i am a medium build type of guy and the springer works great for me. it is a shamethat SA no longer makes this model. i picked mine up used for a little more than 600 bucks and it shoots and looks new.

definitley gets my recamendation if ya can fid a good used one

I have the Para C645. Needed the DA for CA CCW. Initially had trouble with chambering a fresh mag. Reliable now after 250 rounds break-in and mags adjusted and feed ramp polished by Para (good customer service goes a long way). Just your typical "not" shoot out of the box .45. Overall happy with the size and feel.

sorry, to answer your question. Aftermarket ambi safety is available for southpaws( good idea anyway in case of injury)
