Marlin 1894 barrel choice?

I've read many posts where people seem to enjoy their Marlin and prefer it over a Puma. I know there are options in barrel length and also color, etc. As for the "cowboy" (octagon barrel) or base model, is the octagon barrel worth the extra money?

Yes, it is worth every copper penny. Not only in the asthetics department, but it gives a muzzle forward weight, which enhances the steadiness of off hand shooting. In other words it hangs out there really nice, without waving around. You will not be sorry you spent the extra$$
