My local gun man refused to let me pick up 2 guns today. Both are long guns both shipped without ffl.Ffl was sent to seller as required along with payment and I thought individual could ship to ffl dealer no problem. SO WHAT'S THE PROBLEM!!! I know I've had at least 20 guns shipped to him and at least half with no ffl.?? thanks

Hey Guys. I read in another thread that GB has a link somewhere on the site that lists local gun shops that are willing to do FFL transfers. It seems many are not willing to ship to CA., and I have to ship a rifle from a recent auction, and his FFL reguires I ship from FFL. I'm in Kennesaw, GA.
    Thanks.

I have no idea, sounds legal to me, atleast in this state.

Some dealers won't accept firearms from non-licensees even with a copy of their driver's license. Dealers in my area are afraid of accepting stolen guns so they only accept FFL's. I know an ATF investigator and she said even though it's legal, ATF can't force a dealer to a firearm from a non-licensee as it's the dealer's right of refusal. You should check with your dealer before you send payment to the seller.

Well... you were there. We weren't. What exactly did your "local gun man" tell you was the issue?

well vic seemed clear enough. seller did not include ffl.I have never asked people to send ffl and with 20 guns or so being sent I'm sure this is not the first one that has been shipped with only a copy of drivers lic. according to atf individual can ship to ffl dealer without providing ffl right.

Yes they can, but you cant make the dealer accept and transfer it. You might have to have it returned and shipped all over again.

YES THEY CAN. that's the answer I'm looking for.said they would have to call atf and see if they could accept.I didn't think they changed the law.Have had guns shipped to three different states I've lived in, no problems or questions until today.Oh well. I have seen auctions on here that state "IF" your dealer needs ffl include $25.00

No offense, but this isn't too clear...

We can infer the problem is the lack of FFLs being included.

This the same gun guy that you say did 10 transfers for you in the past without FFLs... did you even ask why it is now an issue? If so, what did he tell you? What did he propose as a resolution?

And a others have stated it is legal to accept a firearm from a non-ffl but his store policy may be different... it's free America and it's his business...

He said he would have to call and see if it was ok. If not they could fax ffl. My point is these are being bought from individuals, that being said it should be "ok" for them to ship to him. I have never been told to have gun shipped with ffl. If I were shop owner I wouldn't give out a copy of my ffl to every T. D. & H. that wanted to ship a gun. If I ship a gun with my drivers lic. the shop knows exactly who to turn over to atf if theres a problem, not the store owner who says "oh its that one guy ,what's his name" I sent out copy of ffl for him. He comes in every so often, I'd know him if I seen him! 44

    "YES THEY CAN" is correct.

I don't just give out my FFL. Anything with my FFL attached, I log it in my A&D book if someone needs to include an FFL with the shipment. I sell guns and equipment for my gunsmithing customers and am finding more and more FFL's I ship to are insisting on an FFL with shipment. You can charge for running it across your books or make it a freebie for a regular. Again, it is the B.G.'s making more work for the honest trader.

Well, if your dealer is suddenly unsure if it is ok after already doing a bunch of private transfers he really needs to study up on being an FFL.

Also, an individual doesn't need a copy of an FFL to ship a firearm, only another FFL does. ATF suggests individuals do not get copies and simply use the EZ check instead... personally a an individual I would want to have a copy in hand, just in case...
