I have found that mine will work with some, and not with others. I have used Wolf Pheasant loads, Winchester Supreme loads, and PMC High Velocity loads with success.

Try getting an Erma 22 luger to work, and days like yours seem a god send.

And then when you go back to a 3" shell....What happens to the bolt buffer and the back of the receiver with more gas than the hole for the 3" was designed for???? Just buy a barrel with a 2-3/4" chamber...

I have an 1100 magnum also! the barrel has a single gas port! it will only cycle with extremly high brass or three inch shells, which translates to more recoil! when you disengage the barrel from the receiver, look into the part of the barrel that covers over the magazine tube and you will see one port! to my knowledge there are not any modifications that can be made! long story short, sell it and buy an 1100 that was manufactured for 2 and three quarter shells or shorter! these particular model 1100's have dual ports in the gas chamber part of the barrel thereby allowing you to shoot anything thats two and three quater shells or shorter!

Wow....that a lot of exclamation points there. Why shoudl he sell the 1100 magnum and buy a regular 1100, when he can swap a barrel and get the same gun. There are a ton of used barrels for 2 3/4 1100 guns out there on the web, and the auctions. However, since I only use mine for hunting I am fine with using heavy loads.

What Wehrmacht_45 said. A barrel with 2 3/4 inch chamber will work on a magnum receiver and give the same results as on a standard receiver. Used ones can often be found in gun shops. Around here they're in the $75-100 range.

Another thing you might try: get a Steel Shot 1100 barrel; that way you get the option of using choke tubes, and you can still use 3-inch steel loads. Mine also shoots a wider range of 2 3/4 inch loads than the regular 3-inch barrel that came on the gun. Still won't work with trap loads, but some 1 1/8 oz. loads do work.
