Hello sorry guys I should have paid more attention I know there were many carbines built with military parts but non military contract receivers I ave seen Plainfields and Ivy-Johnson . My question is a older Neighbor just brought a carbine to me to clean said it had been misplaced in a closet for 30 + years. The parts are for the most part G.I. except the top hand guard is solid not with air holes sheet steel. The receiver is marked on the rear ALPINE with a 4 digit serial in front of the late model GI sight The front receiver ring has U.S. CARBINE M 1 . My question is does anyone know when and by whom were these guns made . plus opinion on quality of this polished blued receiver I E are they safe to shoot.

Edit Thanks nmeyers this is most likely cast and polished from the smoother then military finish and lack of any military markings on the receiver or barrel.

Alpines were made in the early 1960's by a subsidiary of National Ordnance. Receivers were either cast, or welded "demilled" USGI receivers. But, folks shooting them report no problems with function or safety. I guess you can consider them half-way between Universal & Iver Johnson.

I've got one with a Alpine reciever that I've been shooting for about two years with no problems.
