Timber and field hunting or pass shooting?

If hunting over decoys in timber or fields (shorter, more predictable shots) then a 26" will do just fine.

If you are pass shooting then a 28" will work better for you (aid in swing and follow-through).

I have one rather elderly "goose" gun with 36" bbl- but really guys, with modern ammo, the extra tube just slows the swing, and (IMHO) does not really bring anything to the table. Go for the 28.

i was taught that extra length incresed muzzle velocity to get that shot way up there for migrating flocks. thus the 30"+. my tests showed that 1" will increase MV by 2-5fps. i was just curious what our fellow would be shooting to see if he needed that extra umph.

Will be shooting over decoys mostly, but have noticed this late in the season on public walk in area the ducks are not comming into the decoys just the odd curious flyby so maybe a little longer barrel?

Sounds like 28" will be your best bet.

Bobski - It is getting increasingly difficult to find a field gun with 30" tubes. Seems like 26" and 28" are pretty much the norm.

I rarely see any 30in tubes offered on new guns. 24, 26, 28 seem to be the options on the vast majority. I have several 30in barrels on my older Brownings, Winchesters, and Remingtons. However, anything I have that was made since the very late 90's has 26 or 28 tubes on them.
