How to RE-solder the rear sight M98

I took off the rear sight base on a 98 Mauser to cut down a bad barrel and recrown.

Now its a 22" barrel with a good crown. I want to make a scout type rifle with the B-Square mount I bought.

Question is how do I resolder the sight? Is there a trick to getting it straight and in-line with the bore? I turned a very little off the barrel, but the rear sight base still fits well.

What type of slder do you use?

Thanks for the help

When I did mine years ago there was shanked screw in sight and a locating hole in bbl. I just fluxed the hell out of both area and used the solder that was there with maybe a little addition of soft silver.

I had a little excessive head space so I set the barrel back .005".

I don't think the alignment hole is on top anymore and there is no solder left.

So soft silver is what should be used? I just don't want it to shoot loose later.

    thanks

Take out as much of any material that you may have in there so there will be a close slip fit to both parts. Then tin it as suggested. setting down everything square line up the sight with an indicatorso it wil be on 000 TDC. This is a fixture of sorts that will hold everything in place when cold soldering. This will hold it in just fine. Keep the temperature less than 700 degrees. Avoid anything that will flow over 1000 degrees

use standard 50/50 solder (approx. 400 deg flow temp.), like jk said you'll have to rig a fixture to hold the sight at t.d.c.
