I have a tcr with double trigger and also a "mag" tcr. I purchased the double trigger with a .222 barrel and a 7mm barrel. Is it safe to shoot the 7 mm on the "non mag" receiver? The mag has a .338 on it.

I'm an advent fan of the tcr and have several. just acquired one in a 257tcu. can anybody tell me something about this caliber and what it is good for. I was told that it is a 223 necked up for a 25 cal. bullet. true?

I owned one back in the 90's. It was the later version with the single trigger. I originally just bought a receiver, then a 7mm Mag & a 12 Gauge shotgun barrel. There, to the best of my knowledge was never a magnum receiver. The standard receiver was manufactured to accept any caliber or gauge barrels.

If I remember correctly, the TCR was originally the TCR 83(1983), and could be had in the standard form or the Aristocrat model with the set triggers. In 1987, they upgraded the reciever to handle the powerhouse magnums, and done away with the set trigger option. They also added slug barrels, and dangerous game calibers at this time.

I would be careful about shooting a Mag barrel from the standard reciever, as there may be more thrust from the hotter rounds than the breech face of your reciever was originally designed for. At least I would call TC, and ask before I done it...there is a reason they designed the Encore, and did not apply the same line of cartriges to the Contender frame. Just make sure the same is not true before you do it on the TCR...I would hate to see a fine rifle ruined, or worse...you!

Thanks guys. As always ya'll have been a great deal of help and a cornicopia of info. Right now I have it in 7mm, 308, 243, 223, and 22 hornet. I think I have sold the 338 with the mag receiver. Happy trails to you 338! Kicked like a darn mule.[:D]
