1911 scope or Red dot?

Bought one of the 1911 BSquare mounts.

Feels pretty sturdy when attached. Should I be looking for a pistol scope or Red Dot?

I've never used a pistol with anything other than sights before.

Any advantages either way or is it preference?

thanks

On a 1911 I would stick with iron sights...but if you just want an optic sight, I would go with the red dot, quicker to pick up. And the competition shooters use them.

I have a Red dot sight on a couple different firearms. I have used red dot sights on a couple of .44 and .357's that I hunt with.

I guess it depends on what you want to do with the gun.....

IMHO get a red dot hands down .you get a full field of view no matter what distance the red dot is from your eye 3 inches or 3 feet. and for the most part no parallax with good quality ones. Battery life is MUCH BETTER then they were when they first came out you get 100's of hours . I suggest you get an ULTRA-DOT with adjustable dot size to find what is best for you and the type of shooting you do. Larry's Guns in maine is a factory dealer with good prices.
