There was someone who had a post about a GM product that did a great job of cleaning carbon fouling out of the barrel, they even had a part number. If you are still out there, could you give me tha part number again? Thanks!

You can also use spray carb. cleaner.
Go to the comp. shooting and reloading forum and look for Kari Prager's post.

GM TEC (top engine cleaner). The formula has been changed to be commiefornia friendly so the newer version won't be anywhere near as good as the old version.

If you find the old formula at any dealership,..buy all you can and I'll split it with you.

    Here's the product number:

EDIT: 5mm the part number may have changed when they altered the formula. Go to auto parts place, and see if there's been a part number change. If so, then continue your search by part number only. You may hit on some old stuff in an out-of-the-way corner. Gotta do some detective work here. Best, Joe

How long ago did they make the switch to the new formula?

just ask one of their mechanics,..they know but I don't. My buddy that is a mechanic at the dealer told me it was sometime last year and the new stuff isn't anything near what the old stuff was. The older stuff, which he gave me a 1/2can of, is wicked stuff on carbon but DON'T get it on anything like plastic or painted surfaces.

I have found that Wal Marx sells something called "Orange Blast" that has been really good at eating carbon off of my gas pistons of my AK, FAL, and FN49. It has also done really well on my AR bolt and carrier. The trick is to just let it soak in and bust it up. Then it brushes off really easily. Stuff is like 3 bucks a bottle.

I use brake cleaning spray product on all of the guns I own, it takes light rust right off a rifle or hand gun and kills carbon. I used it on a old .22 and as I sprayed the receiver I could see a very lite coat of rust go away and it also did the same job on the barrel. Good stuff!
