M1a supermatch built in 1980 original owner, douglas heavy barrel. Not a scratch on the gun, and less than 500 rounds down the pipe. Whats the going rate on these. Thank you

    Howdy folks,

This is my first post at the forums. I have a technical question regarding M1A. I noticed that when the operating rod is not in forward postition, and I move the rifle up and down, I can hear something moving back and forward every time.

But once the operating rod is in the forward position, I don't hear that sound again.

I am reading the manual now and trying to figure out where this sound comes from.

Can any one explain what is moving back and forward while the operating rod is in back position.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Hello does this have the original invoice denoting serial and original box with label or does the seller state that it is a super match ??

its gonna take a lot more than claiming a douglas bbl on the M1a to give an accurate appraisal. maybe im old but i never remember there being such an animal called a super match in 1980. i thought that term was sorta new. i could be wrong.
seems if i recall, people were still building usgi guns in 1980 from parts and spring armory was offering NM standard grade bbls on their match M1a's.
anyway...enough ramblin. can you post a pic of it so i can see what else catches my eye on it?

    i stand corrected.
remember when they cost 800 back then?
sounds like a 2000.00 gun these days.

Beltfed: givette here. I cant valuate, but my late '80's NM (not supermatch) M1A came with all cpermd says except the barrel. Mine is std. contour barrel marked "NM". Also 072NM front sight/hooded rear. Glass bedded. Mine cost ~$875 (1989). Best, Joe
