Operation of Ruger PC4

I took delivery last week of a used (police trade-in)PC4 from J&G Sales. The bore is great and the stock not bad. They said it would have the name of the police department stamped into the stock but, instead, the number 4 was crudely etched into both sides. Anyway, I inserted an empty magazine, retracted the bolt, and let it go. Instead of the empty magazine holding the bolt open, it slid right over it and shut. Its that the way its supposed to be or is this a malfunction. With a loaded mag, will the bolt stay open after the last round is fired? The way this works, it would not seem so. Also, when I pulled the bolt back and activated the bolt hold open button on the left, and then retracted the bolt further, it did not deactivate the hold open switch as it typically does on pistols. Is this the way it is supposed to work? Thanks for the help.

Spider7115: Thanks a million!!! I have wanted to buy one of these for years, dilly dallied, and had to buy one used. You can imagine my concern that I bought one that malfunctions. From my first reading of the manual, it appears that mine functions normally. Again, I can't thank you enough for your help. After work, when the coast is clear at the copy machine, I will be making a copy. This did the trick! Thanks.

You're very welcome and I'm glad it solved your problem (which, fortunately, was not a problem at all!). You may want to book mark this website as it has many useful user manuals: http://stevespages.com/page7b.htm

Take care and have fun with your new toy!

Spider7115: Again, thanks, as you said, what I feared was a problem turned out not to be one. I am going to bookmark that website, and do as you directed...have fun with my toy. Now, if they only made a folding stock for this baby....hmmmmm

Mission accomplished. I printed it here at the school where I teach, (by remote from my room) and had to run and snag it before the countless anti-gun teachers got to the printer after work. Usually no one is around by then. I think it is hilarious. My colleagues in the socialist studies department are always bashing the NRA, guns, etc. (me) and here I am printing a Ruger manual under their noses. what a day.
