Antique pistol barrel identification

I'm posting this for a member of another site. It is approximately 52-54 caliber, and 4" in length. There is a silver inlay on the top of the barrel. It seems to be an obvious flintlock barrel, but could be an earlier ignition system. Unknown if the bend in the tang is intentional, or if it is just bent. Anyone have any idea who may have made this ?

Who made it is anyone's guess, European likely, 18th century probably. Flintlock - yes. Tang just bent, should be curved gently downward from parallel to barrel top. Original length was probably 3 times the length of the octagon section.

Only my opinion of course. I have only been into lock, stock & barrel type guns since the 1940s. See my profile.

    RHMC,

Thanks for the reply. I posted it on the other site for the owner of this peice. He dug it up in Georgia at an old home site.
