I have a new 17rem fireball. it came with a 4-14x40 Bushnell 30or4200.

I don't think this is enough scope for this gun when shooting p-dogs long range.

I have hit a few other forums up with the same question.

Depending on which forum I poll they all have different suggestions
the coyote hunters and callers say a 4 or 6 fixed power scope because its about the calling and not the shooting. 100yd shot or less is the goal.

The shooters forums say the bigger the better.

what you all say??

I have looked at Weaver, Mueller

17 cal slugs are on the light side as bullets go, and as such are easily affected by wind. My take is that a 14x will probably give you all the practical mag you need for shooting over the effective and optumal range for the 17fireball. I'd take it out and shoot it at longer ranges under field conditions before going to the expense of buying a better, and much more costly, scope for the rig. The Bushnell elite 4200 is a pretty good scope and I'd be surprised if it wouldn't work just fine for what you are proposing to do with it. Now on the other hand if you are just looking for an excuse to buy a new scope, go for it, I'd want a 50mm bell on a varmint rig for dawn and dusk light gathering. Have fun with it........
