So, the way I understand it, the 442 is the blued version of the 642, correct?
This gun (top) is being offered to me, and the owner SWEARS it says 442. Have there been stainless 442's made or is it just mis-stamped? Also, the turn ring looks rather well worn... Been fired much?

That turn ring is normal for a Smith [;)]
Its not stainless. The 442 was made in both "matte blue" and "satin nickel" finishes. Thats the satin nickel version.
This is correct. I have one of each. Bought one (blue), liked it so much I bought a nickel one. It's sitting in the safe, unfired.
